Lusaka, Zambia | Africa is taking bold steps to make air travel across the continent more accessible and efficient. The African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the Yamoussoukro Decision and the Single African Air Transport Market, key initiatives aimed at liberalizing the skies and boosting connectivity between African nations.

AFCAC Secretary General Adefunke Adeyemi highlighted that improved aviation frameworks will lower travel costs and strengthen intra-African connections, creating new opportunities for business, tourism, and regional trade. “Enhanced connectivity is not just about convenience it directly supports the growth of tourism and allied sectors,” Adeyemi said during a meeting with Zambia’s Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba.

Minister Sikumba emphasized Zambia’s vision of becoming a top tourism destination in the region, noting that reliable air links are essential to attract both regional and international visitors. The discussions also explored joint strategies to align aviation and tourism policies, improve infrastructure, and invest in capacity building to ensure sustainable growth.

The meeting underscored a shared goal: harnessing Africa’s aviation sector to drive economic development, strengthen tourism, and connect communities. With AFCAC and national governments working closely, travelers and businesses across the continent can look forward to a future of smoother, more affordable, and well-coordinated air travel.

Takeaway: Africa’s skies are opening up. Enhanced aviation policies and regional cooperation promise a more connected continent, offering tourists, businesses, and travelers new opportunities to explore, trade, and thrive.
