The African Union Commission (AUC) has issued a strong appeal for urgent international action to address the growing security crises affecting multiple regions across the continent.
In a statement released from its headquarters in Addis Ababa, the Commission expressed deep concern over the surge in armed conflicts, terrorism, and political instability in parts of the Sahel, Horn of Africa, and Great Lakes regions. The AUC warned that the worsening situation threatens not only African stability but also global peace and development.
“Africa is facing an unprecedented security challenge that requires coordinated international solidarity,” said Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission. “We call on our global partners to strengthen support for peacekeeping, humanitarian relief, and post-conflict reconstruction efforts.”
The Commission highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian situation in countries such as Sudan, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where millions have been displaced due to ongoing violence. It emphasized that underfunded peace missions and delayed global responses have limited the continent’s ability to respond effectively.
The AUC also urged the United Nations Security Council, European Union, and other international partners to increase logistical and financial backing for African-led operations, including the African Standby Force.
Analysts say the call underscores the AU’s growing frustration with the slow pace of international engagement in African conflicts, many of which have transnational implications such as migration, terrorism, and economic disruption.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace through diplomacy, dialogue, and regional cooperation but stressed that these efforts would only succeed with strong global collaboration and resource mobilization.
