Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire — The playoff matchups for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket quarterfinals have been confirmed following the conclusion of the group phase on Monday.
Uganda’s national women’s basketball team, the Gazelles, secured a direct spot in the quarterfinals after topping their group—a feat also achieved by Mali, host nation Côte d’Ivoire, and defending champions Nigeria.
The remaining eight teams will now battle it out in the playoff round on Wednesday, July 30, for the four remaining quarterfinal berths. The first playoff match of the day will see Mozambique take on Guinea at 3:00 PM (EAT).
Ugandan fans will be particularly focused on the 7:00 PM clash between Egypt and South Sudan, as the winner of that fixture will face the Gazelles in the quarterfinals scheduled for Thursday, July 31 at 3:00 PM (EAT).
The matchup holds extra significance given recent history between these Zone V rivals. Uganda faced both Egypt and South Sudan during the AfroBasket qualifiers. The Gazelles defeated South Sudan during the round-robin stage but initially lost to Egypt. However, they later avenged that loss with a hard-fought victory in the final to clinch direct qualification for the tournament.
The other playoff fixtures will feature Senegal, runners-up in the 2023 edition, taking on Rwanda at 9:00 PM, while Angola and Cameroon will face off in the late-night game at 12:00 midnight (EAT).
