Algeria’s Cabinet meeting held on October 19, 2025, chaired by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, produced a series of strategic decisions aimed at advancing institutional reform, infrastructure development, and regional innovation leadership. Among the most significant outcomes was the approval of a draft organic law encompassing the Basic Law of the Judiciary. This legislative move is part of Algeria’s broader effort to modernize its legal system, reinforce judicial independence, and align governance structures with international standards of transparency and accountability.

The Cabinet also reviewed progress on the construction and localization of seawater desalination plants, a vital infrastructure initiative designed to combat water scarcity and improve access to clean water across the country. These projects reflect the government’s commitment to sustainable resource management and its responsiveness to environmental challenges, particularly in regions most affected by drought and climate change. The emphasis on localizing production further supports Algeria’s goal of building domestic capacity and reducing reliance on imported technologies.

In addition to legal and infrastructure matters, the meeting focused on preparations for the 4th African Startup Conference, which Algeria is set to host. The event is expected to draw innovators, investors, and policymakers from across the continent, positioning Algeria as a central hub for digital entrepreneurship and youth-led innovation. President Tebboune issued directives to ensure the success of the conference, highlighting its importance in promoting economic diversification and showcasing Algeria’s growing role in Africa’s tech ecosystem.

These decisions underscore the Algerian government’s strategic priorities: strengthening institutions, investing in sustainable infrastructure, and fostering innovation. The Cabinet’s outcomes reflect a coordinated approach to national development, aimed at improving public services, empowering local talent, and enhancing Algeria’s influence in shaping the continent’s future. Through these initiatives, Algeria continues to demonstrate its commitment to progress, resilience, and regional leadership.
