The Algerian Cabinet, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, convened to deliberate on a series of strategic national priorities aimed at reinforcing governance, boosting economic resilience, and enhancing public services. A central outcome of the meeting was the approval of a draft organic law establishing the Basic Law of the Judiciary. This legislative reform is designed to strengthen the independence and integrity of the judicial system, aligning with Algeria’s broader institutional modernization agenda. By reinforcing the legal framework, the government aims to ensure greater transparency, fairness, and efficiency in the administration of justice.

In response to the country’s growing water scarcity challenges, the Cabinet reviewed the progress of ongoing seawater desalination projects. These initiatives are part of a long-term strategy to secure sustainable water resources, particularly in regions vulnerable to drought and climate variability. The projects are expected to reduce Algeria’s reliance on traditional freshwater sources and enhance resilience against future environmental pressures. The government emphasized the importance of accelerating implementation timelines and ensuring that these facilities meet international standards for environmental and operational efficiency.

The Cabinet also turned its attention to innovation and entrepreneurship, with preparations for the 4th African Startup Conference taking center stage. This event, which Algeria will host, is envisioned as a platform to showcase the country’s growing tech ecosystem and to foster collaboration among African innovators. The government reiterated its commitment to supporting youth-led enterprises and digital transformation, viewing the startup sector as a key driver of economic diversification and job creation. By positioning itself as a regional hub for innovation, Algeria aims to attract investment, talent, and partnerships from across the continent and beyond.

Additional discussions focused on accelerating housing development, improving public service delivery, and advancing agricultural modernization. The Cabinet underscored the urgency of expanding affordable housing programs to meet the needs of a growing population, while also enhancing the quality and accessibility of essential services. In the agricultural sector, the government reaffirmed its support for modernization efforts aimed at boosting productivity, ensuring food security, and reducing import dependency. Investment incentives were also reviewed, with a focus on stimulating domestic production and creating sustainable employment opportunities.

Collectively, the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting reflect a comprehensive approach to national development, balancing immediate socio-economic needs with long-term strategic goals. Through legal reform, infrastructure investment, and support for innovation, Algeria is charting a path toward a more resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking future.
