Rabat – Morocco has unveiled a significant livestock support initiative valued at 12.8 billion dirhams, aimed at providing direct financial assistance to farmers, funding the purchase of fodder, and ensuring the preservation of breeding females across the country. The program was announced during today's session of the Government Council.
This initiative forms part of the government's broader strategy to reinforce the agricultural sector and support farmers, in line with the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
“Following the High Guidance of His Majesty and as part of the national sector rehabilitation program, we are launching direct support payments to livestock breeders while completing the animal identification process,” said Ahmed El Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, during a press briefing.
The council also approved Draft Decree No. 2.25.394, which introduces updated standards for the quality and food safety of edible fats and vegetable oils sold in Morocco. The decree aims to modernize the regulatory framework for these products, ensuring consumer protection, transparency in commercial transactions, and alignment with international standards, explained Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas.
Under the provisions of Law No. 28.07 on food safety, the decree outlines the definitions of edible fats and oils, specifies allowable commercial designations, and establishes requirements for labeling and presentation. These updates reflect market changes and aim to streamline trade while safeguarding product quality and protecting consumers.
Both initiatives underscore Morocco’s commitment to modernizing its agricultural sector, ensuring food safety, and enhancing the welfare of its farming communities.
