Millions of Egyptians are casting their votes in parliamentary elections that are being closely watched both domestically and internationally for signs of the country’s political direction.

Polling stations opened early across Egypt on Sunday, with long queues reported in major cities including Cairo, Alexandria, and Giza. The elections, which will determine the composition of Egypt’s House of Representatives, are expected to shape the country’s political landscape for the next five years.

The vote comes amid rising concerns over economic challenges, youth unemployment, and regional instability, issues that have dominated campaign debates. Several political parties, including the Nation’s Future Party, Al-Wafd Party, and a number of independents, are vying for seats.

The government has promised free and fair elections, with security forces deployed nationwide to ensure order. The National Election Authority confirmed that both local and international observers have been accredited to monitor the process.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, whose allies currently hold a majority in parliament, has urged Egyptians to participate actively, describing the election as an opportunity to strengthen democracy and stability.

Analysts, however, note that opposition parties face significant challenges, including limited media access and restrictions on political gatherings. Voter turnout is expected to be a key indicator of public sentiment toward the government’s performance.

Preliminary results are expected within days, while official tallies will be announced later by the National Election Authority.

As Egyptians head to the polls, the outcome of this vote is likely to influence not only national policy but also the broader conversation about political participation and reform in the Arab world’s most populous nation.
