At the Mozambique Gas Summit & Exhibition held in Maputo, energy company Eni presented its second sustainability report, Juntos Crescemos 2024, reaffirming its enduring commitment to inclusive development and environmental stewardship in Mozambique. The report outlines a comprehensive approach to sustainability, highlighting achievements in health, education, clean energy, and conservation, while emphasizing the company’s role in fostering long-term partnerships with local communities.
A centerpiece of Eni’s efforts is the Coral South project, which has evolved into a dynamic training ground for Mozambican professionals. Since its launch in 2022, the project has produced over five million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG), while simultaneously serving as a “floating school” that equips local talent with skills now recognized and utilized across Eni’s global operations. This dual focus on technical excellence and human capacity-building reflects Eni’s broader strategy of integrating development goals into its core business model.
Environmental protection also features prominently in the report, with the Great Limpopo Project securing Mozambique’s first REDD+ license. Covering four million hectares of forest, the initiative benefits approximately 320,000 community members through conservation efforts and carbon offset programs. Eni’s clean cooking initiative has distributed more than 140,000 improved cookstoves across Maputo, Sofala, and Manica provinces, reducing indoor air pollution and promoting healthier living conditions. Additionally, the launch of vegetable oil production for Enilive biorefineries has opened new agricultural opportunities, linking local farming with sustainable energy solutions.
Healthcare advancements are another pillar of Eni’s sustainability agenda. The company delivered the first-ever CT scanner to Pemba Provincial Hospital, enhancing diagnostic capabilities for over half a million residents. It also supported cervical cancer prevention efforts, facilitating more than 3,700 screenings and contributing to early detection and treatment. In education, Eni’s vocational training programs have reached over 700 students, teachers, and staff in Pemba, reinforcing the importance of skills development in driving economic diversification and resilience.
Through Juntos Crescemos 2024, Eni demonstrates how corporate responsibility can be a catalyst for transformative change. The report not only showcases tangible outcomes but also reflects a philosophy rooted in shared progress, environmental integrity, and human empowerment. By aligning its operations with the aspirations of Mozambican communities, Eni continues to position itself as a partner in building a more sustainable and inclusive future.
