NAIROBI, KENYA | FIFA President Gianni Infantino will be in Nairobi on Saturday to attend the final of the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), organizers confirmed on Wednesday.
Nicholas Musonye, Chairman of Kenya’s Local Organizing Committee for CHAN, said Infantino will serve as the chief guest as the eighth edition of the tournament, which features only domestic-based players, concludes in Kenya’s capital. Also expected are CAF President Patrice Motsepe and all 54 heads of national football associations across Africa.
Two-time champions Morocco will face Madagascar in the final, capping a competition that began on August 2 in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Kenyan President William Ruto and other senior government officials are also slated to attend the event.
Originally postponed from January to August, the 2024 CHAN was designed as a test run for the 2027 African Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Motsepe played a central role in coordinating the first three-nation tournament, and despite earlier concerns about the readiness of the host countries, the CHAN 2024 is set to conclude as one of the most memorable editions in recent history.
