Ghana has added its voice to the growing international outcry following Israel’s recent airstrikes on Qatar, strongly condemning the action as an assault on sovereignty and a destabilizing move in an already fragile region. In a statement released through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Accra described the attack as “unprovoked” and a direct threat to peace efforts between Israel and Palestine. Ghana further urged that the incident must not derail the crucial role Qatar has been playing in mediating dialogue across the Middle East.

President John Dramani Mahama extended solidarity to Qatar’s Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, affirming Ghana’s support for the people of Qatar in what he called “a moment of unwarranted aggression.” The Ghanaian government also recognized Qatar’s consistent contributions to peace-building and humanitarian support, stressing that undermining such efforts risks worsening the humanitarian crises already plaguing the region.

This condemnation comes amid a wave of international reactions. UN Secretary-General António Guterres declared the airstrikes a violation of international law, while Germany, Turkey, and other nations described the attack as unacceptable. Turkey’s government even went further, accusing Israel of adopting terrorism as state policy, while the Vatican urged restraint and renewed negotiations. These responses point to a growing global consensus that unilateral military actions threaten to undo years of delicate peace diplomacy.

Within Africa, Ghana’s bold stance underscores the continent’s increasing role in advocating for justice, peace, and respect for sovereignty beyond its borders. African nations, themselves no strangers to conflict and foreign interference, continue to emphasize dialogue and multilateralism as the only sustainable path toward resolution. Ghana’s position reflects Africa’s broader belief that the world cannot afford silence in the face of escalating violence that disregards international law.

By standing with Qatar and amplifying the call for peace, Ghana not only reinforces its foreign policy values but also contributes to a wider African narrative, one where the continent aligns with global voices of conscience, urging justice, peace, and respect for human dignity.
