Guinea-Bissau's President Umaro Sissoco Embalo appointed Braima Camara as prime minister on Thursday, just three months before upcoming elections and after his opponents claimed his mandate had ended.
Camara, a former coordinator of the opposition Madem G15 party, was appointed by presidential decree. He becomes the third prime minister since Embalo assumed office in 2020.
He replaces Rui Duarte de Barros in the position. In March, Embalo announced his bid for a second term in November, reversing earlier commitments to step down, which sparked tensions over delayed elections.
The presidential and legislative elections are set for November 23.
