Kampala, Uganda | Ahead of the 59th coronation anniversary of Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma, the Omusinga of the Bakonzo, and the kingdom’s first-ever birthday run scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2025, Abbas Byakagaba, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has pledged robust security measures to ensure peace and safety in Kasese District and the wider Rwenzori region.

The assurance followed Byakagaba’s visit to Kasese on Wednesday, where he held a closed-door meeting with regional police commanders, local leaders, and the leadership of Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (OBR) at Verina Gardens in Kasese Municipality. Addressing journalists afterwards, he underscored the importance of collaboration between security agencies and community structures to safeguard the celebrations.

“We will ensure that people jubilate in peace on Friday … The Kingdom has played a crucial role in promoting stability, not only in Kasese District but across the entire region,” Byakagaba said. He pointed to recent coordinated attacks in Kasese, Bundibugyo and Fort Portal, which left more than 40 suspects dead and over 90 arrested, as evidence of the need for heightened vigilance.

OBR Prime Minister Benson Kule Baritazale welcomed the IGP’s visit, stating it strengthened the Kingdom’s confidence in the government’s commitment to regional security. He revealed that during the meeting, the five foundational pillars of the Kingdom’s five-year strategic plan were shared, including an appeal for Shs 1.3 billion to fund cultural and tourism infrastructure such as a cultural village and Nzururu FM radio station.

As preparations for the anniversary event continue, the Kingdom has also launched several community activities including tree planting where over 800 indigenous trees will be planted at Buhikira Royal Hill building on more than 100,000 trees planted between 2019 and 2025.

With security assurances in place and community programmes underway, the stage is set for the 59th coronation celebration to proceed under a blend of cultural festivity and heightened security oversight.
