ITHUBA Uganda, the operator of the Uganda National Lottery, has unveiled a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Empowerment Programme designed to support Uganda’s boda boda riders by providing them with digital skills, entrepreneurship training, and the chance to earn commission-based income as National Lottery ticket agents.

Created in collaboration with the Boda Boda Association of Uganda, the initiative aims to equip riders with the necessary tools and opportunities to transform their side hustles into sustainable businesses. Participants will undergo training, be registered as lottery agents, and have the opportunity to earn while continuing with their daily work.

“At ITHUBA, we believe that true empowerment is not about handouts, it’s about creating opportunities,” said Bob Kabenaro, Chairman of ITHUBA Uganda.

“This programme equips riders with the skills, tools, and support needed to create sustainable income. It’s about turning potential into progress, and dignity into prosperity,” said Eric Mabuza Jnr., General Manager of ITHUBA Uganda.

Mabuza Jnr. added that the initiative is not just about participation, but about building entrepreneurs. “The National Lottery is more than just entertainment, it’s a vehicle for change. We’re transforming everyday Ugandans into partners in progress,” he explained.

At the heart of the initiative is ITHUBA’s Lottery Xpress platform, which allows anyone with a smartphone to become a digital lottery agent. “It’s simple, fast, and accessible, enabling micro-entrepreneurs to earn income while extending the reach of the National Lottery network,” said Gys Potgieter, Lottery Specialist.

Additionally, the company introduced TAANO TAANO, a rapid-draw lottery game with draws every five minutes, starting at Shs100. Designed to be fun, fair, and accessible, the game aims to expand the National Lottery’s reach while creating new opportunities for local communities.

The CSI Empowerment Programme is part of ITHUBA Uganda’s broader mission to drive social impact through innovation, empower grassroots Ugandans, promote entrepreneurship, and contribute to national development.

ITHUBA Uganda operates under the regulation of the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board and was granted a 10-year license to run the Uganda National Lottery by Finance Minister Matia Kasaija.
