Uganda’s Olympic bronze medalist Jacob Kiplimo has set a new benchmark in Argentina, breaking the course record at the 21k de Buenos Aires, a World Athletics Label road race. The world half marathon record holder completed the race in an impressive 59:29, overcoming strong winds to claim victory.
Ethiopia’s Seifu Tura finished second in 59:56, while Kenya’s Vincent Nyamongo secured third place in 59:57. Speaking after the race, Kiplimo said, “I am very happy that despite the strong winds I managed to run a good race and break the course record. It was a very good race for me, which I also used to prepare for the World Championships in Tokyo.”
This marked Kiplimo’s first race in Argentina, a challenge he had long anticipated, and he described his performance as a valuable step ahead of the Chicago Marathon on October 8. Earlier this year, he impressed in his marathon debut, finishing second at the 2025 London Marathon.
Dominic Otuchet, president of Uganda Athletics, praised Kiplimo’s form. “I am very happy with the way Jacob started the season and how he continues to shine ahead of other major competitions this year,” Otuchet said.
Kiplimo’s remarkable career includes gold medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, a silver at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships, and gold at the 2023 edition, cementing his status as one of Uganda’s premier long-distance runners.
