Kampala, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam – With just two weeks to go before kickoff, preparations are nearing completion as Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania gear up to co-host the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) — a historic tournament that marks the first time three countries will jointly host a major CAF football competition.

The 8th edition of CHAN, which runs from August 2 to 30, 2025, is reserved exclusively for players competing in their respective domestic leagues. The tournament aims to spotlight Africa’s local talent, deepen regional cooperation, and foster national pride through football.

This year’s CHAN represents more than just a series of matches — it is being heralded as a symbol of unity and a showcase of East Africa’s readiness to deliver a world-class sporting experience.

“We are just two weeks away from writing a new chapter in African football.” “CHAN 2024 is more than a tournament — it’s a powerful statement of African excellence, unity, and belief in local talent. East Africa is ready to welcome the continent.”

CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba.

Each of the three host countries will play a distinct role in the tournament. Tanzania will host the opening match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The third-place playoff will be held in Kampala, Uganda, while Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, will stage the final at Kasarani Stadium, where a new African champion will be crowned.

The final draw, already conducted in Nairobi, placed 19 qualified teams — including defending champions Senegal — into their respective groups. With regional football powerhouses and emerging nations in the mix, fans can expect a month of intense competition and breakout performances from the continent’s best home-based players.

As the clock ticks down, CAF and the local organizing committees are focused on final logistics, stadium readiness, and enhancing the fan experience. Marketing campaigns and ticketing initiatives are set to roll out in the coming days to ignite excitement across East Africa and beyond.

Beyond the matches, the tournament is expected to provide economic and social benefits to the host nations, strengthening infrastructure and fostering cross-border collaboration — all while building momentum for the AFCON 2027, which the same three countries are also set to co-host.

The stage is almost set. For East Africa, CHAN 2024 is more than a tournament — it’s a celebration of sport, unity, and a bold step onto the continental stage.
