LG Electronics East Africa has reaffirmed its dedication to Uganda with a strategic expansion aimed at meeting the country's rapidly increasing demand for home appliances and consumer electronics.
This move is being executed in collaboration with Appliance World Limited (AWL), LG’s exclusive distributor in Uganda. It comes as Uganda’s home appliance market is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.62%.
Uganda’s growth is part of a broader regional trend, with East Africa seeing similar demand surges. Kenya’s home appliance market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.75%, Tanzania’s at 10.50%, and Ethiopia’s at 13.02%. LG’s expansion in Uganda is aligned with its broader East African strategy, aimed at meeting the increasing demand across key markets. The growth is driven by rising consumer demand for modern appliances, fueled by urbanization, lifestyle changes, and growing middle-class incomes.
At the 31st Uganda International Trade Fair, organized by the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) under the theme “Sustainable Industrialization for Inclusive Growth, Employment and Wealth Creation,” Jane Kariuki, LG East Africa’s Regional Head of Marketing, emphasized Uganda’s importance in LG’s regional strategy.
“Uganda represents a vital market for us, with its young and dynamic population increasingly seeking modern home appliances that complement their lifestyles. By participating in the UMA Trade Exhibition, we are able to directly engage with our customers and partners, reinforcing our long-term commitment to Uganda and the region. This platform offers us the opportunity to showcase our latest innovations while strengthening partnerships with government, industry, and local distributors,” Kariuki stated.
The LG exhibition is co-hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uganda, KOTRA (the commercial section of the Korean Embassy in Uganda), and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), bringing together entrepreneurs and public-private sector players to showcase Uganda’s industrial resilience, innovation, and growth potential.
“Our expansion across East Africa is about becoming more accessible to our customers. We’ve seen consistent growth in demand for energy-efficient home appliances that enhance convenience and sustainability. By strengthening our presence in the region, we are ensuring that customers have better access to innovative LG products and reliable after-sales services. This approach aligns with our vision of improving everyday living for all our customers,” Kariuki added.
