President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has called on South Africa to strengthen defense cooperation with Brazil in order to reduce vulnerability to foreign threats and enhance strategic security. Lula emphasized the importance of collaboration between emerging powers in addressing global challenges and protecting their national interests.
Speaking during diplomatic engagements, Lula noted that closer defense ties could include joint training, technology exchange, and coordinated security strategies. He argued that stronger partnerships among developing nations could help reduce dependence on traditional global powers in matters of defense and security.
Officials say such cooperation could also extend to maritime security, peacekeeping operations, and the development of local defense industries. Both countries have previously collaborated through multilateral forums and share common interests in promoting stability in their respective regions.
Analysts believe that deepening defense relations between Brazil and South Africa could strengthen South–South cooperation, while also creating opportunities for knowledge sharing and technological advancement in military and security sectors.
