Makerere University has officially launched the Makerere University Grants Administration Professionals (MakGAP) program, following the completion of an intensive four-day training workshop. The program, conducted in collaboration with experts from Makerere University and Northwestern University (USA), aims to build a strong pool of skilled professionals to manage the university’s growing research portfolio.

With over 100 new research grants registered each month, the university requires a critical mass of trained personnel to ensure effective and transparent grant administration. The MakGAP initiative is a strategic move to professionalize grant management and support the university’s expanding research agenda.

Speaking at the launch, university leadership expressed gratitude to the Grants Administration and Management Support Unit (GAMSU) led by Prof. Sylvia Tamusuza Nakimera Nnanyonga for organizing and delivering the training.

The MakGAP program is expected to play a key role in enhancing efficiency, accountability, and sustainability in research grants management at one of Africa’s leading academic institutions.
