As Senegal prepares to face the Harambee Stars in an international friendly on 18 November, veteran goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has sent a stern warning to Kenya, emphasizing that the Lions of Teranga are ready to bounce back.
Speaking after Senegal’s 2–0 defeat to Brazil, Mendy acknowledged his side’s mistakes but pledged a more focused performance in their upcoming match. “We made some technical errors in the first half against Brazil — in our preparation and finishing zones,” he noted. “We will analyse and learn, but we will not be bogged down.”
Mendy was particularly upbeat about the remainder of the November tour in Turkey, urging his teammates to “finish well” before returning to their clubs. “There were good things in the second half,” he said. “We will rely on them in our upcoming matches, especially against Kenya.”
Senegal’s squad for the clash, confirmed by the Senegal Football Federation, features a blend of experience and youth including Sadio Mané, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Mendy between the posts.
For Kenya, the friendly represents a key test under coach Benni McCarthy. The Harambee Stars, adjusting their November schedule, will also play Equatorial Guinea before the Senegal clash. Despite being underdogs, Kenya’s goalie Byrne Omondi has expressed confidence in his team, calling a win “a great thing” for their development.
The match at Mardan Sports Complex will be a showdown not just of nations, but of contrasting trajectories Senegal seeking redemption, Kenya aiming to prove they can challenge Africa’s elite.
