Rabat - Morocco’s road network covers approximately 48,000 kilometers of paved roads, Equipment and Water Minister Nizar Baraka revealed on Monday in Rabat.
Baraka made this announcement while responding to a parliamentary inquiry regarding the maintenance and expansion of the national and regional road network.
The minister emphasized that his department allocates considerable resources to road upkeep, dedicating 46% of the total road sector budget to maintenance efforts.
“Improving the quality of roads is a top priority for the ministry,” Baraka stated. He added that 66% of the road network is currently in good to excellent condition, with plans to raise this figure to 80% by 2030.
Baraka also highlighted the government’s commitment to upgrading roads with high accident rates as part of broader safety and quality improvements aimed at benefiting all road users.
Morocco’s road maintenance strategy seeks to balance the preservation of existing infrastructure with the expansion of the network to accommodate the country’s growing transportation demands.
In preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted across multiple Moroccan cities, the country has taken significant steps to enhance its road infrastructure.
