Marrakech — Morocco has officially been named the Country in Focus at the 2025 European Film Market (EFM), which will take place from February 12–18 alongside the 76th Berlin International Film Festival.

“With its rich cinematic heritage and groundbreaking filmmakers, Morocco has become a vibrant link between Africa, the Arab world, and Europe,” stated the EFM, and they’re absolutely right.

From the winding streets of Marrakech to the vast golden dunes of the Sahara, Morocco has long been a filmmaker’s paradise and a storyteller’s muse.

Berlin Film Festival chief Tricia Tuttle perfectly captured the sentiment, saying, “From auteurs like Nabil Ayouch, Faouzi Bensaïdi, Asmae El Moudir, Halima Ouardiri, and Maryam Touzani to a new wave of emerging filmmakers, Moroccan voices bring unique perspectives to the Berlinale and festivals worldwide.”

In other words, Moroccan cinema is not just participating—it's captivating.

While Morocco’s homegrown filmmakers are shining brighter than ever, the country is also evolving into a global film hub.

Think Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Nicolas Cage’s Lord of War sequel, and countless other international productions that have taken advantage of Morocco’s irresistible incentives: a 30% rebate, VAT exemption, up to 80% off equipment rentals, and even discounts on hotels.

Yes, Hollywood, you heard that correctly.

“Morocco blends a strong national cinema with an openness to international collaboration,” noted Berlinale Pro director Tanja Meissner. “It offers high production value, skilled professionals, and distinctive locations.”

So, whether it's indie filmmakers from Casablanca or massive crews in Ouarzazate, one thing is clear—Morocco is no longer just a backdrop; it’s a vibrant, powerful force in world cinema.
