Rabat – Despite facing challenges such as drought and labor shortages, Morocco achieved a new record in tomato exports, shipping 745,000 tons during the 2024/25 season.
According to data from Morocco’s Foreign Exchange Office, the country earned nearly $1.2 billion from tomato sales between July 2024 and June 2025, as reported by EastFruit. Despite long-term drought conditions and a shortage of farm workers, Morocco’s tomato exports rose by 8.3% compared to the previous year, surpassing the 2022/23 record by 4%.
Tomatoes: Morocco's Top Agricultural Export
Tomatoes now account for over 30% of Morocco’s total fruit and vegetable export earnings, making it the third-largest global exporter, following Mexico and the Netherlands.
While Morocco exports tomatoes throughout the year, the majority of shipments occur between November and March. Notably, in November 2024, the country shipped 105,000 tons of tomatoes in a single month.
In May 2025, Morocco reached a new milestone, exporting 5,000 metric tons of tomatoes to Norway alone between July 2024 and March 2025.
