Rabat – Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor highlighted Morocco’s growing tourism momentum, emphasizing that the country is increasingly becoming a destination that travelers plan for in advance.

Ammor noted that 33% of tourists now book their trips between two weeks and a month before departure, up from 21% in 2019.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the National Tourism Confederation (CNT), she described this as proof of Morocco’s status as a “carefully planned destination.”

The minister also shared that the average length of stay is now around seven days, reflecting Morocco’s accessibility to key markets.

Tourism revenues have risen by 13%, reaching MAD 67 million by the end of July. Domestic tourism saw an 8% increase, while Moroccan departures abroad fell by 25% compared to 2024. This shift reflects a growing preference for local vacations.

CNT President Hamid Bentahar called for enhanced collaboration between public and private sectors to further boost the sector’s performance. He also noted that CNT’s summer season review was highly positive.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Morocco welcomed 13.5 million tourists by the end of August, marking a 15% increase over the previous year. The peak summer months of July and August saw a record 4.6 million visitors, a sign of sustained growth.

A significant portion of these visitors were Moroccans living abroad, with 3 million arriving during the summer—a 13% rise from 2024. The ministry attributed this influx to the strong connection of Moroccans with their homeland and Morocco’s appeal to international tourists.

In response to rumors circulating on social media about declining domestic tourism, the ministry reaffirmed that the recent data underscores Morocco's growing appeal. It also reaffirmed the importance of the 2023-2026 Tourism roadmap, which focuses on improving air connectivity and enhancing tourism offerings through investment incentives in entertainment and accommodation.

Notably, the ministry pointed out that global tourism is expected to grow by just 5% in 2025, according to the World Tourism Organization, making Morocco’s performance even more impressive.

With a record 17.4 million tourists last year, Morocco aims to reach 26 million by 2030, surpassing Egypt in terms of tourist arrivals.
