Mozambique’s National Communications Institute (INCM) has launched ThinkLab, a pioneering technology incubator aimed at accelerating digital transformation and nurturing startup innovation across the country. The initiative was unveiled in Maputo during INCM’s 33rd anniversary celebration, marking a bold step toward positioning Mozambique as a regional hub for tech-driven development. ThinkLab is envisioned not merely as a physical space, but as a dynamic ecosystem where young entrepreneurs, developers, and visionaries can collaborate, experiment, and bring groundbreaking ideas to life.

Speaking at the launch, Communications and Digital Transformation Minister Américo Muchanga described ThinkLab as “a symbol of the future we want to build,” emphasizing its role in shaping a digitally inclusive society. He underscored the importance of digital communication as the backbone of modern economies, capable of empowering communities and democratizing access to knowledge. The minister challenged INCM to go beyond its regulatory mandate and embrace emerging technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and satellite internet, urging the institution to become a proactive architect of Mozambique’s digital future.

Helena Fernandes, Chairperson of INCM’s Board, echoed this vision by portraying ThinkLab as a bridge between local talent and global opportunity. She called on stakeholders from academia, the private sector, and government to support the incubator’s mission, highlighting its potential to drive inclusive innovation and economic diversification. By fostering collaboration across sectors, ThinkLab aims to address national challenges with locally rooted, tech-enabled solutions that reflect the aspirations of Mozambican youth.

The launch of ThinkLab signals a transformative moment for Mozambique’s digital landscape. It represents a commitment to cultivating a vibrant startup ecosystem where creativity, resilience, and technological ambition converge. As the country navigates the complexities of the digital age, initiatives like ThinkLab offer a blueprint for sustainable progress, one that ensures no citizen is left behind in the pursuit of innovation and opportunity.
