KAMPALA | President Yoweri Museveni has extended his congratulations to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election, praising her leadership and reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to continued cooperation with Tanzania. In a message shared through his official communication channels, Museveni said the victory reflected the confidence and trust that the people of Tanzania have in President Samia’s vision and governance.
“Uganda and Tanzania share deep historical and fraternal ties that date back to the struggles for independence,” Museveni said. “I look forward to working closely with President Samia to strengthen our partnership in key areas such as trade, infrastructure, and regional peace and development.”
The Ugandan leader’s message underscores the importance of Tanzania as a strategic partner in East Africa. The two countries continue to collaborate on major projects, including the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), regional trade facilitation, and cross-border security efforts.
President Samia’s re-election has been met with congratulations from across the continent, with regional leaders commending her efforts in promoting women’s empowerment, economic stability, and diplomacy within the East African Community (EAC). However, her re-election has also drawn attention from international observers and opposition figures, some of whom have raised concerns about electoral transparency.
For Uganda, the renewal of President Samia’s mandate offers an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation and drive forward shared priorities under the EAC framework, particularly in energy, transport, and trade. Museveni’s congratulatory message thus reflects both solidarity and a strategic reaffirmation of Uganda’s partnership with Tanzania one rooted in decades of political friendship and mutual economic aspirations.
