In Uganda, the high cost of quality education has long been a barrier for many families, with international schools charging tuition that can reach Shs 10 million annually. A local edtech startup, TutorHail, is transforming this landscape by offering parents access to top-tier tutors from international-standard schools at affordable, pay-per-session rates. Founded by Alvin Buye, the platform provides “education on demand,” allowing students to access specialized teaching without committing to full-time, high-cost enrolment. This innovation not only makes elite education more accessible but also empowers parents and students to customize learning according to need and budget. While the initiative demonstrates significant potential, Buye and other education advocates highlight that systemic challenges such as limited digital infrastructure and startup support still need urgent attention to scale such solutions effectively.
