As the Professional Fighters League (PFL) makes its highly anticipated debut on the African continent, all eyes are on Juliet Ukah, a 26-year-old Nigerian police officer and undefeated MMA fighter, who is poised to become a defining figure in the rise of women’s mixed martial arts (WMMA) across Africa.
Ukah will make her PFL debut this Saturday in Cape Town during the inaugural PFL Africa event, a landmark moment for the promotion’s global expansion. Holding a spotless 6-0 professional record, she will face hometown favorite Ceileigh Niedermayr in the opening bout—a fight that symbolizes more than just athletic competition; it represents a breakthrough for African women in the sport.
“It’s like a dream come true.” “It’s something I’ve been working for all my life, waiting for this time to happen.”
Ukah said during the pre-fight media day.
Her journey has made her a role model for young fighters across the continent. While she acknowledges the pressure, she wears it proudly.
“All of my career I’ve kind of been a motivation to younger ones growing up. It’s quite a pressure, but I think it’s just part of me. I’m used to being under pressure while doing what I know best.”

Championing Women's Representation in MMA
Beyond the octagon, Ukah is on a mission: to make women’s MMA more visible and accessible in Africa. She believes the sport has grown significantly across the continent but says women fighters still lag behind in recognition and opportunity.
“It has grown a very long way, especially in Africa.” “But for females, it has not grown so much. Females need to come out and showcase their talent, so they can also have the same opportunities the guys have.”
Ukah
Ukah is not just willing to be the face of the sport in Africa—she sees it as a responsibility.
“If I don’t go to the media, then how will the world know there’s a female in Africa? I need to let people understand that we have females in Africa who are also strong.”
