Kampala, Uganda — Jane Frances Acilo, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Oyam District Woman Member of Parliament seat, has officially received the backing of President Yoweri Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The endorsement, made during a strategic meeting at State House this week, makes Acilo the first parliamentary aspirant to secure the President’s nod for the upcoming election cycle. It underscores the confidence both the President and the NRM leadership have in her leadership capacity and vision for Oyam District.
Oyam, once considered a Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) stronghold, has witnessed renewed NRM momentum under Acilo’s grassroots mobilization. Her candidacy is widely seen as strengthening the ruling party’s influence in the region and setting the tone for a competitive election season.
Acilo has pledged to champion practical, community-driven solutions with a focus on sustainable household income initiatives and grassroots development. She emphasized that her leadership will prioritize empowering families to achieve dignified livelihoods and greater self-reliance.
Speaking after the endorsement, Acilo said:
“My leadership will focus on practical solutions to everyday challenges. I am committed to empowering households to generate steady incomes and secure a brighter future for our communities. The President’s endorsement is both an honor and a responsibility, and I will work tirelessly to advance the NRM’s vision of prosperity for all.”
Her endorsement by the Head of State marks a significant moment in Oyam’s political journey as the district prepares for the 2026 polls, signaling a potential shift in its long-standing political landscape.
