The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has announced that renewed National Identity Cards (IDs) are now ready for collection across the country.

In a public notice released this week, NIRA urged Ugandans who applied to renew their National IDs to visit designated collection centers to pick up their cards. The Authority emphasized that applicants should carry their acknowledgment slips or national identification numbers (NINs) to facilitate smooth collection.

“We encourage all those who successfully applied for ID renewal to check with their respective district or division offices,” a NIRA spokesperson stated. “IDs are now available and ready for pickup.”

The announcement comes amid increasing public concern over delays in ID processing and long queues at NIRA offices. The renewed IDs are part of Uganda’s ongoing national identification upgrade, which aims to improve security features, data accuracy, and access to e-government services.

NIRA reminded applicants that the renewed IDs are valid for 10 years and are essential for accessing a range of services, including voting, banking, travel, and SIM card registration.

Ugandans can also check the status of their applications via the NIRA website or toll-free customer service lines.
