Port Louis, Mauritius | Reunion celebrated victory at the inaugural Africa Region 4 Junior Team Championship held at Tamarina Golf and Spa Resort on August 28, marking a historic milestone for junior golf in Africa. The tournament brought together young talent from six Region IV countries Reunion, Mauritius, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda under the Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) umbrella.
Reunion emerged as clear champions with a team score of +28, followed by Kenya at +59, Mauritius at +85, and Uganda in fourth place with +109. Tanzania and Madagascar completed the leaderboard with scores of +141 and +153, respectively. Individually, Reunion’s Melliyal Schmitt was the standout player, posting rounds of 67, 70, and 72.
AGC President Johnson Omolo of Uganda praised the championship as a key step in developing junior golf across the continent. “We are realizing our dream of growing junior golf in Africa,” Omolo said. “We will continue to host such events across South, West, and Central Africa, offering young golfers international exposure and competitiveness.” He called on public and private sector partners to support efforts to unite Africa through golf and expressed gratitude to the Mauritius Golf Federation and participating countries for their contributions.
The event provided Africa’s rising stars with a dedicated platform to nurture talent, foster friendships, and prepare for future international competitions. Inspired by the success of continental tournaments like the All-Africa Junior Team Championships, these regional competitions aim to build the next generation of champions.
Attention now turns to the Africa Region 4 Senior Amateur event, scheduled for November 26–30, 2025, at the luxurious Golf Du Rova Resort in Antananarivo, Madagascar, where senior amateurs will compete for regional honors.
