Rabat - Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has unveiled plans to expand its domestic flight network, improving connectivity to Morocco's southern provinces.
This expansion, made possible through a collaboration with the regions of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, and Guelmin Oued Noun, is part of RAM's strategy to better serve citizens' needs and foster regional economic growth, according to a press release from the national carrier.
The airline noted significant growth in air services from the southern provinces since 2005, with the number of weekly flights increasing from just six to 63.
Hamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc, celebrated the development of the domestic network, stating that the expansion is aligned with King Mohammed VI's vision for regional connectivity and economic dynamism.
“By strengthening our presence in the south, we aim to connect regions more efficiently, enhance mobility, and support territorial development,” said Addou. He also emphasized that the launch of new routes reflects RAM’s commitment to linking all regions of Morocco and stimulating social, familial, and economic vitality.
This month, RAM launched new air routes between Marrakech and Laayoune, with flights operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Flights from Laayoune depart at 4 p.m. and arrive in Marrakech at 5:20 p.m., with return flights at 6:10 p.m. and arrival in Laayoune at 7:40 p.m. The one-way economy fare is set at MAD 750 ($75).
Additionally, Royal Air Maroc now operates fifteen weekly flights between Casablanca and Laayoune, including a new Sunday service. There are also five direct flights per week between Casablanca and Guelmin, and three weekly flights between Casablanca and Tan Tan, now separated from the Guelmin route.
As part of the ongoing expansion, a new direct route from Casablanca to Es-Smara will be inaugurated on November 6, marking the 50th anniversary of the Green March. The new route will operate twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays.
