Shearwater Geoservices has secured a significant contract from ExxonMobil’s Angolan affiliate, Esso Exploration Angola Block 15 Limited, to conduct a two-month deepwater Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) seismic survey offshore Angola. Scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025, the operation will deploy Shearwater’s advanced OBN platform, including the SW Tasman and Pearl node system, with the SW Gallien serving as the source vessel. This project marks another milestone in Shearwater’s growing presence in West Africa’s energy sector and reinforces its reputation for delivering high-quality geophysical solutions in complex environments.

The survey is designed to support ExxonMobil’s strategic exploration goals in Angola, a country with vast offshore reserves and increasing importance in global energy markets. By utilizing cutting-edge technology and precision data acquisition, Shearwater aims to provide detailed subsurface imaging that will inform future drilling and development decisions. The deployment of Ocean Bottom Nodes allows for enhanced seismic clarity, particularly in deepwater regions where traditional methods may fall short.

Shearwater’s CEO, Irene Waage Basili, emphasized the significance of the contract, describing it as a reflection of the company’s trusted expertise and consistent performance in delivering complex OBN surveys. The project not only strengthens Shearwater’s relationship with ExxonMobil but also highlights the company’s commitment to supporting sustainable energy exploration through innovation and operational excellence.

As Angola continues to attract investment in its offshore oil and gas sector, partnerships like this one underscore the importance of advanced geophysical services in unlocking new reserves and optimizing production. Shearwater’s involvement in this high-profile survey positions it at the forefront of seismic exploration in the region, contributing to both technological progress and energy security.
