United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Africa’s Global Bank, is set to make a major impact at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), bringing together world leaders, policymakers, investors, and private sector stakeholders. The 80th edition of the UNGA will take place from September 15th to 25th, and UBA Group has planned a series of events to highlight Africa's opportunities and engage in high-level discussions aimed at advancing the continent’s potential.

A key feature of the event will be the unveiling of UBA’s pioneering whitepaper, titled ‘Banking on Africa’s Future: Unlocking Capital and Partnerships for Sustainable Growth.’ This whitepaper will present actionable strategies for tapping into Africa's economic potential and focus on critical sectors such as trade, infrastructure, digital innovation, climate finance, and inclusive growth.

This first-of-its-kind initiative by a leading African financial institution at the UNGA aims to position Africa not only as a recipient of investment but also as a key driver of global prosperity through collaborative efforts with the international community.

In addition to the whitepaper launch, UBA will host several high-profile activities, including a Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) Roundtable organized by UBA America and the annual UBA Reception. The reception will gather global leaders, policymakers, and business executives for in-depth discussions on investment and development opportunities across Africa.

UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, emphasized the strategic significance of these dialogues, highlighting that UBA has become a central figure in driving substantial investments into the continent. “These conversations are not just about discussions; they will lead to actionable decisions that UBA is committed to implementing for Africa’s development and sustainability,” Elumelu said. “The UNGA is the largest global gathering of world leaders, and UBA’s participation ensures that Africa’s voice is heard, showcasing the continent’s immense potential.”

UBA’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, added that the whitepaper underscores the need for more private organizations to demonstrate their commitment to Africa’s development through tangible actions. He called for stronger collaboration to drive sustainable progress on the continent.

As one of Africa's largest employers in the financial sector, with 25,000 employees and over 45 million customers worldwide, UBA operates in 20 African countries, as well as the UK, US, France, and the UAE. The bank offers a range of retail, commercial, and institutional banking services, leading financial inclusion and adopting cutting-edge technologies.
