KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda Cranes co-head coach Morley Byekwaso on Monday unveiled the final 25-man squad set to represent the country at the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, during a press conference held at the FUFA Complex in Mengo.

Speaking with confidence, Byekwaso expressed optimism about the team's preparation and form, emphasizing that Uganda’s primary goal is to advance beyond the group stage a milestone the Cranes have yet to achieve in seven previous CHAN appearances.

“We are set and ready for the tournament.” “The selected players are in perfect shape to make sure we perform well and achieve our prime target of going beyond the group stage.”

said Byekwaso.

The team is currently in a residential training camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisaasi, where final tactical preparations are underway. Uganda recently played two friendly matches in Arusha, facing off against Tanzania and Senegal valuable tune-ups ahead of the continental showpiece.

Allan Okello, an influential midfielder from Vipers SC, has been named team captain, with Joel Mutakubwa and Rogers Torach appointed as first and second deputies, respectively.

Uganda has been drawn into Group A, alongside Algeria, Niger, Guinea, and South Africa. The Cranes will kick off their campaign against Algeria on Monday next week.

This year’s edition of the CHAN tournament reserved for players active in their national leagues will be jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, running from August 2 to 30, 2025, despite being officially designated as CHAN 2024.
