Port Louis, Mauritius | Uganda’s junior golf team delivered a stronger showing on the second day of the Africa Region IV Junior Team Championship at the Tamarina Golf and Spa Resort, consolidating their fourth-place standing.

Shaka Kariisa Ndyabahika and Banza Matsiko Gershom improved their performances from day one, while Keisha Wiltshire Kagoro stood out with a seven-over 79. Kagoro’s round was highlighted by an impressive front nine of 35, though a series of bogeys on the back nine tempered the overall score. Coach Flavia Namakula praised Kagoro’s resilience: “She is a fighter. Like the rest of the team, no one was satisfied with day one. We had a candid discussion and focused on what we needed to improve, and the players responded.”

The Championship has enjoyed excellent weather, which aided Uganda’s turnaround. Namakula emphasized the importance of mental strength and careful decision-making. “The team was frustrated with their first-day performance, and that anger fueled their improvement,” she said.

For the final round on Thursday, Elizabeth Danelle Dlexik Kawalya will tee off at 8:30am local time (7:30am Kampala time) in the opening three-ball. Keisha Kagoro follows at 8:40am alongside Madagascar’s Louanne Pless and Tanzania’s Shufaa Twalib Hassani. Kariisa begins at 8:50am with Tanzania’s Ramadhani Yasin Mohamed and Madagascar’s Romain Fitahania Gagneux, while Matsiko tees off at 9:00am with Tanzania’s Ibrahim Juma Lukuli and Madagascar’s Matteo Rakotofiringa.

Reunion leads the championship with a commanding 21-stroke advantage over second-placed Kenya. Mauritius sits third, while Uganda holds fourth, only six strokes behind the host nation. With a strong performance, Namakula believes Uganda still has a chance to break into the top three.
