The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS), in partnership with the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA), has set the stage for an exciting series of sporting events under the theme "Beyond the Finish Line" a message underscoring endurance and personal growth in both the professional and personal lives of banking professionals. The launch event, held on Friday evening, began with a brief introduction to the program, followed by a fun and energizing Zumba workout session. This was followed by the official flag-off of the Run/Walk, with participants choosing from 3KM, 5KM, and 7KM routes.
Participants, who hailed from various banks and financial institutions, exhibited their enthusiasm, teamwork, and a strong sense of commitment as they took to the streets of Muyenga. The event was not only a display of physical fitness but also a celebration of the sector’s collective spirit.
Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Goretti Masadde, CEO of UIBFS, highlighted the broader significance of the event. "This gala is more than just competition," she remarked. "It’s a platform for us, as professionals, to step away from our desks, connect with one another, and prioritize our wellness. We work hard to strengthen our sector, but it’s equally important that we take care of ourselves."
Mr. Wilbord Owor, Executive Director of UBA, expressed his full support for the event, reinforcing its importance in promoting staff well-being within the banking sector. "The health of our staff is vital for the continued success of the industry. UBA is committed to making the gala a sustainable event that not only boosts fitness but also fosters collaboration across the sector," Owor said.
Mr. Michael K. Mugabi, Board Chair of UIBFS, shared his enthusiasm for this year’s theme, "Beyond the Finish Line", noting its relevance to both physical endurance and professional determination. "Just like in our sector, the challenge isn't only about crossing the finish line; it’s about pushing ourselves further, supporting each other, and adopting wellness as a lifestyle."
The event also saw the launch of a new Sports Gala App, designed to allow participating banks and their employees to track daily steps during the 30-day Fitness Challenge. The app will also feature updates and schedules for upcoming games throughout the duration of the gala.
The month-long event, which runs from September 5th to October 19th, will include a range of indoor and outdoor sports activities, such as swimming, quizzes, and the CEO/ExCo Golf Tournament. The competition brings together banks and financial institutions from across Uganda, including names like Bank of Uganda, Centenary Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Stanbic Bank, Equity Bank, and more.
As the gala progresses, participants will accumulate points for their respective institutions, with medals and accolades awarded to those who show the most dedication to the Fitness Challenge and other sporting events.
