In a recent diplomatic engagement, the Holy See Press Office reported that discussions within the Vatican’s Secretariat of State centered on strengthening the positive relationship between the Holy See and Zimbabwe. The talks addressed key aspects of Zimbabwe’s political and economic landscape, with particular emphasis on the collaborative efforts between the local Church and the government in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and environmental stewardship.
The dialogue also extended to broader regional concerns, highlighting the shared commitment to promoting multilateralism, constructive dialogue, and international cooperation. These values were underscored as essential for fostering peace and stability across nations, especially in a time of global uncertainty.
Following his audience with Pope Francis, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa held further meetings with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, and Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations. These high-level discussions reflected a mutual interest in deepening diplomatic ties and exploring avenues for joint humanitarian and developmental initiatives.
Zimbabwe continues to grapple with a severe economic downturn marked by hyperinflation and a sharply devalued currency, posing significant challenges to its population. The Vatican’s engagement signals a supportive stance toward addressing these issues through faith-based collaboration and international solidarity.
