Sustainable Craft
Ngwenya Glass, nestled at the base of crocodile-shaped Ngwenya Mountain in Eswatini, is a leader in ethical and sustainable production, transforming 100% recycled glass into beautiful mouth-blown art. Since its founding in 1987, this family-run business has turned community-collected soft drink bottles into high-quality tableware and figurines, crafted by master blowers like Sibusiso Mhlanga, trained in Swedish techniques.
The factory stands out for its eco-friendly practices, using purified used cooking oil from local fast-food chains as fuel, harvesting rainwater, and utilizing solar power to minimize its carbon footprint. Operating under a Fair Trade model, Ngwenya Glass supports over 70 local artisans and contributes to wildlife conservation through the Ngwenya Rhino and Elephant Fund. This enterprise beautifully combines traditional artistry with a commitment to sustainability, showing that "the glass is greener" when created with purpose.
