Entebbe, Uganda — His Highness Aga Khan V has arrived in Uganda for a two-day official visit aimed at deepening partnerships in healthcare, education, and regional development. He was warmly received at Entebbe International Airport on Wednesday evening by Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng.
The visit was marked by a high-level meeting at State House, Entebbe, where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni welcomed the Aga Khan. Discussions focused on enhancing Uganda’s private sector, regional integration, and the strengthening of long-standing ties between Uganda and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
“My father had great love for Uganda, so it is very meaningful for me to be here,” said Aga Khan V, expressing gratitude for the government’s support through ministries such as Education and Health.
President Museveni acknowledged the valuable role of the Ismaili community in Uganda’s development and emphasized the need for continued support of private enterprise.
“If past governments had not interfered with the Shia community’s development, they would be very far,” Museveni remarked, citing his early encounters with the Ismaili community in Ntungamo.
During the visit, His Highness is expected to launch the Aga Khan University and commission the construction of the new Aga Khan Hospital. He will also meet members of Uganda’s Ismaili community to celebrate shared progress and future opportunities.
A key topic during the leaders’ discussions was the importance of accelerating progress toward a unified East African Community (EAC) market. The Aga Khan encouraged rapid integration efforts, while Museveni assured that Uganda is actively working toward that goal.
His Highness is accompanied by Princess Zahra Aga Khan and Prince Aly Muhammad Aga Khan, further highlighting the significance of the visit in strengthening diplomatic and developmental ties.
