Kampala, Uganda \ APA Insurance Uganda, in partnership with Hollard Health, has unveiled APA International Health, a new international health insurance product offering coverage up to Shs36 billion. The launch aims to address Uganda’s persistently low health insurance penetration currently below 1% by combining advanced technology with personalized healthcare management.
The product targets individuals, families, SMEs, and corporate clients, emphasizing preventive care and wellness. Central to the offering is the HealthMov wellness app, which empowers members to monitor vital health indicators via facial and movement scans, track wellbeing, and access telehealth services. The app incentivizes healthy behaviors by rewarding users, making it a pioneering tool in Uganda’s insurance landscape.
Coverage extends across Africa, India, Europe, and globally, with five customizable plans designed to enhance healthcare outcomes while managing costs.
Ashok Shah, Group CEO of Apollo Investments Limited, parent company of APA Insurance, highlighted the partnership’s goal: “With APA and Hollard Health’s combined expertise, innovative solutions, and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, we are setting a new standard for healthcare coverage in the region.”
Uganda’s youthful, tech-savvy population 78% under 35 years old is well-suited to adopt such digital health solutions. Moreover, the country faces a growing burden of non-communicable diseases linked to lifestyle choices, making wellness-focused insurance particularly relevant.
Hollard Health CEO Tobe Hope underscored the need for tailored African solutions: “We are committed to making quality healthcare accessible by offering cost-effective insurance that meets Africa’s unique demands.”
Distribution of APA International Health will leverage brokers and agents, supported by Henner, a trusted third-party administrator known for reliability and client satisfaction.
Manan Desai, CEO of APA Uganda, described the HealthMov app as “a virtual doctor, personal trainer, health coach, and mentor in every member’s pocket,” providing personalized feedback, educational resources, and second medical opinions to ensure timely care.
The partnership between Apollo Investments Limited and Hollard International, established in November 2023, aims to expand health insurance access across Africa, delivering comprehensive, affordable, and technology-driven healthcare solutions.
