Thousands of residents in Kyaggwe County, Mukono, benefited from free medical services at the Kabaka’s Tubeere Balamu health camp, an initiative aimed at improving community health and expanding access to affordable healthcare. The two-day event, held from August 12–13 at the Kyaggwe County headquarters, was officially launched by Prince Daudi Chwa on behalf of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

The outreach provided a wide range of services, including general check-ups, dental care, cancer screening, and vaccinations. The Kabaka emphasized the urgent need for greater investment in Uganda’s health sector, noting that health insurance is key to enabling people to access medical care affordably. “This initiative shows our commitment to improving people’s conditions and protecting their lives,” he said.

Support from Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) played a critical role in the camp’s success, while the Kabaka also commended the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and the Kabaka Foundation for their efforts in improving community health. Archbishop Paul Ssemwogerere of Kampala urged Ugandans to embrace health insurance and regular check-ups, stressing the importance of early detection of diseases such as cancer.

Buikwe South MP Michael Lulume Bayiga described the camp as a gift from the Kabaka, bringing life-saving services closer to the people while highlighting the ongoing need for government and public support for health financing initiatives. He also stressed the importance of prevention through proper nutrition, exercise, and hygiene to combat both lifestyle and communicable diseases.

Kyaggwe County Head, Vincent Matovu, encouraged especially young residents to seek early diagnosis and treatment, with a focus on HIV/AIDS prevention, and acknowledged that the camp complements ongoing projects, including a new hospital in Nyenga Sub-County.

The Tubeere Balamu program has previously taken medical camps to several counties across Buganda, combining treatment with public health education. By increasing access to care and promoting early detection, the initiative continues to improve community health outcomes and life expectancy across the region.
