Residents of Kempungu and surrounding areas in Mbarara District have received a significant boost to healthcare access with the donation of a new ambulance by Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU) to Kempungu Clinic.

The ambulance, officially unveiled on October 2, 2025, is set to improve emergency response, strengthen referral systems, and ensure timely transport for patients in critical condition. During the handover ceremony, the Archdeacon of Ankole, Rev. Patrick Atuhaire, who represented the Bishop as the chief guest, praised RAHU for its continued commitment to community health.

“In health emergencies, time is of the essence. This ambulance is more than just a vehicle; it is a lifeline,” he said. The event was attended by a variety of local leaders, including Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mackline Kukunda, Mayor Gumisiriza Kyabwisho, District Health Officer Dr. Peter Sebutinde, health facility in-charges, Village Health Team members, and clergy, all of whom expressed gratitude for RAHU’s investment in local healthcare infrastructure.

Guests also toured the RAHU Youth Hub, where young people highlighted various livelihood programs and innovations focused on improving health and creating economic opportunities.

Local leaders expressed their appreciation for the donation, noting that the clinic had previously struggled to manage emergencies due to limited transport options.

“This ambulance will alleviate the burden on families and healthcare workers. Patients will no longer have to endure long waits for referral,” one official remarked.

For Reach A Hand Uganda, an organization known for its work in youth empowerment, sexual and reproductive health, and livelihoods, the donation reflects its ongoing mission to enhance access to critical health services in underserved communities.
