Kampala, Uganda — The Rotary Club of Medical Stars, formed by staff of the National Medical Stores (NMS), has officially received its Charter Certificate from Rotary International, formally recognizing it as a full member of the global Rotary movement.
The milestone marks a significant moment for the club, which becomes the first-ever corporate Rotary Club under District 9214, covering parts of Uganda and Tanzania. Initially operating as the Provisional Rotary Club of National Medical Stores, the club has now rebranded to comply with Rotary’s global policy prohibiting use of institutional names. The new name, Medical Stars, reflects its members’ dedication to healthcare and community service.
“As NMS, service is at the heart of our mandate,” said the General Manager of NMS and a Charter Member. “By joining Rotary, we are extending that service beyond health supply into broader community development.”
Receiving a Charter Certificate means the club has met Rotary’s global standards including member recruitment, organizational setup, and commitment to service. The club now joins over 46,000 Rotary clubs worldwide united under the motto "Service Above Self."
Sheila Nduhukire, Principal Public Relations Officer at NMS and the club’s Charter President, described the moment as historic:
“We are proud to officially stand as the Rotary Club of Medical Stars with 44 Charter members. This Charter confirms our place in the world’s largest network of change-makers.”
Since its formation earlier this year, the club has already mobilized over 600 kits for the 2025 Rotary Cancer Run, ranking among the top supporters of the annual fundraiser. It has also planted over 150 trees, signaling its early commitment to health, environment, and community engagement.
Monica Kangave, another Charter Member, emphasized the collaborative spirit behind the club’s success:
“Being part of a founding team that moved this club from idea to reality is a great honor. This certificate is both a responsibility and an opportunity for us to shine brighter together.”
The Rotary Club of Medical Stars now plans to roll out a series of impactful projects, including medical camps, mentorship programs, literacy support, and preventive health campaigns.
The club’s full charter celebrations and Presidential Installation are scheduled for November 8, 2025.
