Tanqueray brought its sustainability vision to life during King Charles III’s 77th birthday celebration last Thursday, an event deeply rooted in the monarch’s long-standing commitment to environmental protection. Hosted by the British High Commissioner, Lisa Chesney MBE, the reception highlighted nature, climate action, and the strong partnership between the UK and Uganda.
Uganda’s Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, attended the event alongside renowned wildlife veterinarian Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, whose groundbreaking “One Health” approach links human, animal, and environmental wellbeing. Their presence underscored the evening’s focus on conservation and shared climate responsibility.
A key highlight of the night was Tanqueray’s collaboration with Good Glass, a Ugandan creative enterprise that upcycles empty Tanqueray bottles into wine glasses, candle holders, jewelry, and decorative lamps. Through this partnership, guests were able to experience firsthand how circular economy principles can be practical, beautiful, and sustainable.
Speaking at the event, Tanqueray Brand Manager Nancy Nansikombi emphasized the brand’s pride in aligning with the King’s values.
“We are glad to be here for this premium experience that is not only celebratory but also conscious. Our partnership with Good Glass shows how luxury and sustainability can coexist, while still being mindful of our carbon footprint,” she said.
The climate theme continued through a striking photography exhibition featuring the Natural History Museum’s 2025 Wildlife Photographer of the Year images, displayed alongside powerful wildlife portraits captured by Ugandan photographers. Guests were also invited to make a symbolic pledge to protect nature by signing a “Commitment Tree.”
Throughout the garden setting, Tanqueray cocktail bars served nature-inspired drinks such as the ‘Evergreen,’ the ‘Regal Ember,’ the floral ‘Bloom Tide,’ and the refreshing ‘Skyward.’ These botanical cocktails added a creative touch that connected the flavours directly to the event’s environmental message.
The celebration brought together business leaders, government ministers, diplomats, civil society members, and friends of the UK. In a gathering that honoured a monarch known for his passion for the planet, Tanqueray demonstrated how a brand with rich heritage can champion a forward-thinking, sustainable future making eco-conscious living both stylish and enjoyable.
