Kampala, Uganda – The 14th edition of the Rotary Cancer Run attracted thousands of participants on Sunday, filling the Kololo Independence Grounds and major towns across Uganda with a united spirit against cancer.

Held under the theme “Many Cancers, One Race,” this year’s run is dedicated to raising funds for the completion of two bunkers at the Rotary Cancer Centre, Nsambya Hospital. Once completed, the bunkers will house two Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machines state-of-the-art equipment that will significantly expand access to advanced cancer treatment in the country.

Centenary Bank, Uganda’s largest indigenous bank, reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to the fight against cancer by serving as the platinum sponsor of this year’s event. The bank contributed more than UGX 600 million towards the initiative, adding to over UGX 3 billion it has donated across all 14 editions of the Rotary Cancer Run. Over the years, the bank has also played a key role in constructing the Rotary-Centenary Bank Cancer Centre at Nsambya Hospital, installing radiotherapy bunkers, and supporting more than 150 health camps across Uganda.

Speaking at the event, Centenary Bank Managing Director Dr. Fabian Kasi thanked participants, sponsors, and partners for their support, noting that the Rotary Cancer Run has become more than an event but a powerful movement proving that cancer can be fought collectively. He emphasized that Centenary Bank’s commitment to social responsibility is deeply rooted in its DNA, with 2% of its annual net profit dedicated to community investments in health, education, environmental stewardship, and social impact projects.

At the heart of this year’s event was C-Care Uganda, which served as the official medical partner and ensured participants’ safety with first aid, emergency response, hydration, and post-run wellness checks. Sheila Aboth, Head of Brand and Client Experience at C-Care Uganda, described the atmosphere at Kololo as “electric” and stressed that the partnership was about standing shoulder-to-shoulder with every runner, survivor, and family touched by cancer. Dr. Miriam Mutero Musinga, General Manager of C-Care IHK, added that the collaboration reflected C-Care’s mission of delivering trusted, world-class healthcare, with the event marking an important step forward in awareness, early detection, and access to advanced treatment.

The Rotary Cancer Run has grown into one of Uganda’s most impactful health initiatives, blending awareness, fundraising, and community action. Funds raised over the years have significantly improved cancer care infrastructure, bringing hope to thousands of patients and their families. As the 14th edition came to a close, the message was clear: cancer may be a formidable challenge, but with solidarity, investment, and collective effort, Uganda is steadily building the capacity to win the race against it.
