Kampala, Uganda — Vivo Energy Uganda, the distributor of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants, has unveiled its Shell Gas clean cooking solutions for schools at the annual Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda (ASSHU) conference, taking place from August 25 to 28, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The company also contributed Shs 20 million to support the organization and logistics of the event.
Speaking at the exhibition, Alvin Bamutire, LPG Manager at Vivo Energy Uganda, said the initiative is part of the company’s broader commitment to the education sector and the promotion of clean, safe, and reliable cooking energy.
“This conference offers us a valuable opportunity to engage with school leaders, demonstrate our schools’ LPG project, and highlight the long-term benefits of Shell Gas for institutional cooking,” Bamutire said. “We are proud to support ASSHU and look forward to future partnerships that will improve cooking solutions in schools.”
The Shell Gas showcase allows participants to explore LPG solutions tailored to educational institutions, emphasizing their safety, cost-efficiency, environmental advantages, and reliability over traditional fuels such as charcoal and firewood.
Bibian Geraldine Nakabiri, Brand Manager for LPG at Vivo Energy Uganda, noted that the shift to gas could transform how schools operate. “Shell Gas can play a transformative role in schools by offering modern energy solutions that improve the cooking experience while supporting sustainability. This conference provides an important platform to start conversations with school leaders about the opportunities for clean energy,” she said.
Schools that adopt LPG stand to gain multiple benefits: reduced fuel costs, improved health outcomes by cutting exposure to smoke-related respiratory risks, and enhanced efficiency by eliminating time lost in firewood collection and stove preparation. The environmental impact is also significant, with reduced deforestation and lower carbon emissions.
King’s College Budo, one of Uganda’s leading institutions, has already transitioned to Shell Gas, setting an example for others by prioritizing sustainability, health, and safety.
ASSHU leaders, including President Deborah W. Basekanakyo and General Secretary Zulaika Nabukeera, welcomed Vivo Energy Uganda’s sponsorship and involvement. “We are delighted to have Vivo Energy Uganda and Shell Gas on board as sponsors of this year’s conference,” they said. “Their participation enriches our discussions on innovative solutions that can positively impact schools, and we look forward to stronger collaborations going forward.”
Vivo Energy Uganda hopes its participation will open the door to partnerships with schools nationwide, encouraging headteachers to book on-site LPG assessments. The company believes adopting LPG can help schools cut costs, improve staff and student well-being, and promote environmental responsibility marking a vital step toward modern, sustainable institutional cooking.
