Kampala, Uganda | Care and Assistance for Forced Migrants (CAFOMI) has been recognized as the second runners-up in the Programmatic Impact (National) category at the 2025 WASH Impact and Influence Awards, celebrating its outstanding contribution to improving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) across Uganda.

Over the past two years, CAFOMI has reached more than 100,000 people living in disaster-prone districts including Ntoroko, Bundibugyo, Kasese, and Kisoro, strengthening community resilience and safeguarding dignity through sustainable WASH interventions.

The organization has provided hygiene materials, constructed sanitation and water facilities, and ensured access to clean drinking water using innovative technologies such as the SkyHydrant ultra-filtration system and ceramic filters delivering safe, chemical-free drinking water even in remote or emergency settings.

“For the past 12 years, CAFOMI has built strategic partnerships to deliver lifesaving humanitarian support and drive issue-based advocacy,” said a CAFOMI official. “Our representation in platforms such as the CRRF Steering Group, Refugee Donor Partners Group, and Uganda National NGO Forum reflects our commitment to amplifying local voices in humanitarian response.”

Despite these achievements, CAFOMI highlights persistent challenges in accessing safe water in disaster-prone communities of southwestern Uganda and calls for increased national and international support to expand sustainable WASH solutions.

Looking ahead, CAFOMI’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan outlines a shift toward social enterprise models that will generate sustainable income streams, ensuring financial independence while reinvesting profits to enhance humanitarian programs and long-term community impact.
